Spring Trends 2015

Spring trends 2015

March marks the beginning of daylight savings for us folks in Vancouver, the month of Spring Break for the kids in school, the time to pack away our winter wool coats and shed a few layers. The other day I noticed someone on Facebook bragged it was 18 degrees on their back deck. Not bad for the first official week of spring. It also marks a time to embrace a new wardrobe and to drool over the beautiful pages of Vogue, Elle, Glamour and the like. Fads come and go but, the trends seem to last more than one season.

In a three part series we will explore three trends that are currently showing up in spring and in some cases even fall runway shows. These particular trends have been around for some time and tend to reappear often. (1) Flower power (2) Denim parade (3) Classic – Black and White.

These are now visible in the home front. You can find items ranging from toiletries, bedding, toss cushions, dinnerware, candles, wallpaper and fabrics that have been influenced by these trends. You don’t have to look any further than our own backyard; The Cross, Provide Home, CB2, 18 Karat just to name a few. Or just turn to your keyboard and the many resources available online for vendors around the globe.

Our first stop is “Flower Power”. This trend is just a little too rosy for me (pun intended). I find this a little too “girly, girl”! How would a man feel living in a space like this? But, trust me I do have girlfriends that I know who would welcome this in their home. All you have to do is turn to Vogue “Shop the Spring Trends 2015: 19 Floral Pieces to Wear Now”  to find Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, Louis Vuitton and Fendi to name only a few. Or Huffington Post claims this is one of the trends everyone including their cousin will be wearing “Fresh Florals” big, bold and unabashedly femine, which is here for good Glamour states; Winter Florals – 2015 most wearable fall fashion trend. I could keep going but, I think you get the point. If this trend is for you why not try bringing in a modern floral toss cushion from Crate and Barrel, a floral wallcovering like this one from Maharam (available through the trade only) or some fresh cut flowers. This particular trend speaks soft, femine and romantic. Add some beautiful scents and candles to set the mood and you will be well on your way. Tomorrow we will hit the “Denim Parade” for all you old school Fashionista’s!
